Expecting Multiples?

Now is a great time to join one of our clubs and start coming to meetings! Many people have found it very useful to come along to meetings whilst they are pregnant as it helps to prepare them for what life will be like once their littles are born. When you find out you are expecting multiples, you will experience a huge range of emotions - one of them will probably be panic!!  We've all been there!  Talking to other parents of multiples will enable you to get some answers to the many, many questions you will have started formulating from the second you had your scan.  Our members have been through a great variety of experiences - natural births, emergency caesareans, premature births, breastfeeding multiples (yes, it can be done!) and so on.  And if we cannot answer your question straight away, we can usually put you in touch with someone who can. If you already have a child/children, please bring them along with you as all members of mutliple's families are welcome at our meetings.

Another benefit is finding out which types of equipment can help you as parents of multiples, from types of cots to double buggies and so on.  Often members sell on their second hand equipment and clothes to other twins club members which can be a huge help with the financial burden of two or more on the way!

St. Michael's and Southmead Hospitals Multiples Antenatal Sessions

pregnantbellyAs an expectant parent of multiples you may not be aware that there are special antenatal sessions run at St. Michaels and Southmead hospitals in Bristol, especially for people like you! If you ask most parents of multiples whether the standard antenatal sessions told them everything they needed to know about expecting multiples or life with new multiples they will generally say no! So the Bristol and North Somerset Twins Clubs along with midwives and health visitors put on special multiples antenatal sessions several times a year.

These sessions are generally held 2-3 times a year on a Wednesday evening.  The session covers what to expect during your pregnancy and specific problems that may arise, the birth - including discussing pain relief, caesareans, premature labour etc., feeding newborn multiples including a talk on breastfeeding multiples, and life at home with your new multiples. These sessions come highly recommend by all those who attended them! If you would be interested in going along, please contact Sarah Greer on 01275 855282.

It is also often possible to arrange an appointment to look around the neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) at the hospital, which we hope you won't need to use however it is felt that if you have had the chance to look around before hand, it is much less daunting should your new babies need special care for a while.

The next Southmead session is in June 2008. They are on a Wednesday, starting at 7pm.

Currently there are no dates for St. Michael's in 2008, but they are normally at 7pm .

It is hoped that antenatal classes are going to be running in Weston-super-Mare later in 2008. Details will be posted as soon as we receive the infromation.
